Alsace in 2 days

Two days through the heart of the wine route: Eguisheim, Riquewihr, Ribeauvillé and Colmar, with every cellar door and drive time worked out.

The days

  • ●Day 1 — From Eguisheim to Riquewihr
  • ●Day 2 — South of Colmar: hilltop crus

Day 1 — From Eguisheim to Riquewihr

  1. Leave Belfort

    55 min by the A36

Park at Les Capucins or the station. The motorway south puts you at the foot of the vineyards in under an hour.

  2. Eguisheim

    Place du Château, 68420 Eguisheim

    Tasting, 45 min

Cellars open their doors all around the castle square. Walk in where the door is open — Pinot Gris is the grape to ask for here.

  3. Lunch in Eguisheim

    On the square, 68420 Eguisheim

    1 h 15

Winstub tables sit under the half-timbered arcades. At lunch you rarely need to book.

  4. Famille Hugel

3 rue de la Première Armée, 68340 Riquewihr

    Tasting, 45 min

Riesling and late-harvest Gewurztraminer. The tasting room fills in high season; ring +33 3 89 47 92 15 in the morning.

  5. Walk Riquewihr

Rue du Général de Gaulle, 68340 Riquewihr

    45 min

Ramparts, the Dolder tower, and vineyard rows pressing against the walls. The light is best late.

  6. Maison Trimbach

15 Route de Bergheim, 68150 Ribeauvillé

    Tasting, 30 min

Open Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 11:45 and 14:00 to 17:15; closed on Saturday and Sunday. Tasting by appointment.

  7. Dinner in Colmar

Wistub Brenner, 1 rue de Turenne, 68000 Colmar

    2 h

Alsatian cooking done properly. Book the day before. Colmar is 10 min from Ribeauvillé.

Sleep in Colmar, or take the 55 min back to Belfort — both work.
